Clusters
Esbjerg is the top offshore city in Denmark. Numerous major Danish and international companies employed in the recovery of oil and gas have established themselves at and around the Port of Esbjerg, and they are contributing to the strengthening of the well-defined and well-functioning cluster within oil and gas.

The long-standing offshore experience has now contributed to the strengthening of Esbjerg's position within energy. Significant actors in the wind power industry have thus established themselves in Esbjerg in recent years.

Oil and gas are not the sole business offers in Esbjerg, however. The plastics industry represents a notable position of strength in the municipality too, and today there is also a
well-defined and well-functioning plastics cluster in the municipality.

Furthermore, in the Esbjerg area there is a rather large concentration of competence within the safety and security area. This involves manufacturing companies, service
companies, training and consulting companies, the authorities and research institutes.

Esbjerg is a university city with more that 5000 students at the various institutions of further education. The close collaboration between the business community and the local research and educational institutions is contributing to the strengthening and further development of the occupational positions of strength in the municipality.
